The first of the four leading global fashion weeks – NYFW , commences tomorrow, February 9th, in New York City. In anticipation of all the new looks and trends streaming down the runway, the TUB team offers you a quick fall / winter 2012 color forecast. We are predicting a continuation of elevated nature-inspired colors, including shades of aubergine, Bordeaux and tobacco. Tinted neutrals offer a new take on the expected and familiar neutrals while in the brights segment, we are interested in clean, primary shades as well as an array of washed, almost sun-kissed brights that seem to have lasted through the winter themselves. Green and blue continue to be the focus while the renewed interest in shades of pink – both, dustier and purer hues, is making a lasting impression.
TINTED NEUTRALS
– Purple overtone offers neutrals a familiar yet new take
– Almost black shades are essential as they give product dimension when similar but off shades are applied
– For the fall/winter 2012 season, the focus will be on both cooler and warmer colored neutrals
BORROWED NOSTALGIA
– Vintage-inspired shades are still relevant as they connect us to the past – camel, tobacco and washed green
– Brown is softening while still borrowing grey and purple overtone coloring
– Vintage orange – a mix of red and classic orange, is a key color for the new season
SUN-KISSED
– Sun-kissed colors transition from summer into fall
– In this seasonless environment, a lot of shades are relevant in all four quarters
– We are inspired by and expect to see on the runway washed-out brights and colors that bring us to the familiar past
REDS AND PINKS
– Red will continues to be one of the most important colors of the fall season – the focus is now on tomato and darker shades
– The familiarity of pink makes it a must-have color – attention being on dusty, barely-there shades and punchier, brighter pinks
– Nature-inspired reds and purples are also essential
SHADES OF BLUE
– One of the most prominent colors of the past few seasons, blue will continue to be a must-gave color for the fall 2012 season
– We are now more interested in petrol blues and ultramarine shades
– Combining unexpected shades of blue will also an essential styling message for the fall season
GREEN
– The need to feel connected to nature and the on-going military references in our everyday lives, made green a staple in our wardrobes
– For the fall season, the attention will be on blue-kissed, deep shades of green as well as washed-out military hues
– We are also interested in very rich and dark, almost-black greens and teal shades
PRIMARIES
– Athletic-inspired primary shades will be an essential part of the fall/winter collections
– Pure reds, greens, blues and oranges are essential
– The focus is still on dusty, in-between colors, which gives way for these familiar, sporty shades to make an appearance
TOBACCO AND OCHRE
– Last season’s more subdued, almost uncertain, ochre will now be more present and punchier
– Yellow is still making a statement but in a more playful yet heavier way
– Brown is essential
